Together, We Light Up Northport! It takes a village to keep this decades-old tradition alive. Thanks for being part of it!

AN ORGANICALLY GROWN, SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY EVENT

Nineteen years ago, the Mayor of Northport was visiting the proprietors of The Northport Hardware Company. Together, they stumbled upon an old gag gift. Laughing all the way, they stuck it in the front window, and gave it an honorary salute.

From that quirky moment, the Northport Leg Lamp Lighting has grown to become a beloved community celebration of local talent, small-town charm, and our village’s unique ability to unite over something delightfully whimsical and create something truly spectacular.

A CELEBRATION OF LOCAL ART AND ARTISTS

In 2022, as new residents of that iconic 90 Main St. building, we of The Firefly were passed this very special – if somewhat tacky – torch. It is now our great honor to host this event, working with our neighbors to light that lamp and the holiday traditions that have sprung up around it.

Here’s our review of how it all went last year: “Shop Local! 2023 Northport Leg Lamp Lighting.”

We now set the stage in early November, filling our windows with raffle prizes donated by local merchants and Fireflies. We can’t wait to see The Northport Tigerettes put their best legs forward here as they have now for over 15 years, and for The Posey School of Dance to sample its beautiful annual production of The Nutcracker Suite.

The Northport Shipwreck Diner will offer Hot Cocoa, The Mayor provides the Leg. Pretty much the whole darned town kicks in something.

The Community Playhouse of Northport then lights it all up in a glorious grand finale. After, we invite you in for a reception featuring live music from The Drama Kings and warmly encourage you to see who else is staying open late, ready with perfect gifts for you.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

This annual Small Business Saturday event draws roughly 1,500 people to Main Street. Your support helps cover event costs like professional lighting and sound. Any proceeds then feed our Firefly Lights Fund, enhancing future events and funding local sponsorships and scholarships.

CASH DONATIONS
Cash donations of any amount are appreciated. We have set up a GoFundMe. You may also donate in person at the gallery via cash or check.

RAFFLES AND TAPAS PLEASE!
Donated raffle prizes, displayed in our windows, highlight the “shop-local” spirit of the season. We also welcome contributions of drink and tapas from local restaurants as part of a delicious “Taste of Northport” at event receptions. Just drop them off at the gallery, or text 631-235-2739 to discuss plates! Donors are shared on our social media and highlighted in our Northport Shopping Guide.

You may now buy chances to win a cash 50-50 and/or the beautiful prizes contributed by our community! Tickets 1 for $5, 5 for $20 and “Arm’s Length” for $50 and a “Wing Span’s Work” for $100. Purchase them online HERE, or go to our 90 Main Street location to pay by cash or check.

FOOD DRIVE

If you’re coming to the event – or just popping in to the gallery any time through end of the year – please consider bringing a donation for our annual Island Harvest food drive.

This year’s drive honors the memory of Kevin McNeil, a disabled Veteran who was an incredibly giving person with a deep love for Island Harvest. His passion for supporting his artist friends made a special impact on our gallery. He is dearly missed.
